Pro bono statistics is volunteer service that utilizes statistical expertise.
We see a place for pro bono statistics at any level of experience. There are
currently some volunteer efforts within the American Statistical Association (ASA).
Meanwhile, Statistics in the Community (STATCOM) at Purdue University has developed a
successful model for student-driven volunteerism programs, which is now being applied
at other colleges and universities. Our goals are to introduce the concept of pro
bono statistics and discuss its benefits to communities and the professional
organizations that engage in such activities. ASA Chapters can play an important
role by participating in pro bono statistics and by supporting local student-driven
efforts.
